In Defense of Girlfriends
My Precious Child,
There are few things in this world that really get under my skin. I truly do have a high threshold for bullshit - be that a good or bad thing, I have yet to figure out - but something that gets me every single time is when women say any variation of the following quote: "I would much rather hang out with guys. Girls are just too much drama." *cringe* Now of course the sayers of such things have every right to their opinion but, ironically enough, those ladies claiming they just haaate the drama tend to be some of the most dramatic people I've ever met.
Plain and simple, don't give into that thinking. Don't toss aside the idea of great, solid female friendships based on poor experience with a few duds. I can give you loads of advice and tell you countless stories of lessons I've learned over the years but there are very few things as important as this: make girlfriends. Your girls. And keep them.
They will be your cheerleaders...
Your comic relief...
And there to clean you up when you've made a huge mess...
They will hold you when you need it...
And make you believe in yourself when you've lost hope...
They will be there to build you up when your confidence is shattered...
They will be the people you will call in the middle of the night when you're feeling alone. They will be the inside jokes, the all-nighters, the insane stories you don't dare tell me. They will make you stronger, better, and more secure just by knowing them. They may be drama sometimes (hell, you may be drama sometimes) but it's drama worth having.
Just be you, baby girl - wonderful, sweet, beautiful you - and I just know you will be surrounded by the right girls. Your girls. They will be all this and more if you let them. So let them.
Love Always and Forever,
Mom
